Is bleeding from the rectum always due to hemorrhoids?

Bleeding from the anus (popularly anus) can be seen in more than one disease related to this area.

Although bleeding is generally thought to be due to hemorrhoidal disease, conditions such as anal fissure (crack), rectal cancers, Colitis ulcerosa, solitary rectal ulcer may also bleed.

While blood that comes mixed with feces is generally thought to be a source of bleeding involving the upper segments of the intestine, brightly colored blood in the form of dripping after defecation is more common in hemorrhoids and anal fissures.

No rectal bleeding should be taken lightly because there are various causes and some of them are precancerous or cancerous and should be evaluated by the general surgeon to distinguish the causes. Visual evaluation of the intestine with anoscopy, rectoscopy or colonoscopy, if necessary, provides additional benefits.
